Tough sind Sie, die Ladies, allesamt hochausgebildet in der großen Klosteruniversität Namdroling in Südindien. 

Lopön ma's sind Sie, ein Titel, dem Master Degree vergleichbar. Nun seit Mai 2023 -  sind alle fünf Damen zu Kenpo ma's erhoben worden, einer Doktorwürde vergleichbar. 

Damit sind Sie die ersten Kenpo ma's in Nepal.    Tatää!!

Wir gratulieren ganz herzlich und sind mächtig stolz auf "unsere" Nonnen. 

Vor ca. 7 Jahren haben diese 5 Nonnen die Nepali Lotus Nun Association gegründet. Damit gibt es eine Körperschaft welche sich der Belange aller Nonnen des Landes- ganz gleich welcher Tradition - annimmt. Hauptsächlich bieten Sie in Ihrem Haus im tibetischen Stadtteil Boudha jenen Nonnen Unterkunft, die sich aus den Bergen nach Kathmandu zu einer medizinischen Behandlung begeben müssen. Sie finden einen sicheren Schlafplatz und die Nonnen betreuen den Krankenhaus Aufenthalt, neben Ihrer spirituellen und lehrenden Tätigkeit.

They are tough, the ladies, all highly educated at the large Namdroling Monastery University in southern India. 

They are Lopön ma's, a title comparable to a Master's degree. Now since May 2023 - all five ladies have been elevated to Kenpo ma's, comparable to a doctorate. 

This makes them the first Kenpo ma's in Nepal.    Wow!!

Congratulations and we are very proud of “our” nuns. 

About 7 years ago, these 5 nuns founded the Nepali Lotus Nun Association. Now there is a body which takes care of the needs of all nuns in the country - regardless of tradition. They mainly offer accommodation in their house in the Tibetan district of Boudha to those nuns who have to travel from the mountains to Kathmandu for medical treatment. They find a safe place to sleep and the nuns look after them during their stay in hospital, alongside their spiritual and teaching activities.

Es freut uns sehr, das in dem Haus der Lotusnonnen nun auch das dritte Stockwerk fertiggestellt werden konnte. Nun hat es drei weitere Gästezimmer mit Bad. Damit können sie nun mehrere Nonnen beherbergen, die aus den Bergen nach Kathmandu kommen, um sich in medizinische Behandlung zu begeben. 

Somit ist das Erdgeschoss der Altarraum im dem tägliche Pujas stattfinden sowie Unterricht für die lokale Bevölkerung in buddhistische Philosophie. 

Im ersten Stock wohnen die 6 Nonnen selber. Drei teilen sich jeweils ein Schlafzimmer, ein weiterer Raum steht für Gäste zur Verfügung.

Mit der Fertigstellung des dritten Stockes gibt es entlastenden Raum um die karitativen Tätigkeiten weiter auszubauen.

Update March 2024

We are delighted that the third floor of the Lotus Nuns' house has now been completed. It now has three more guest rooms with bathrooms. They can  accommodate several nuns who come to Kathmandu from the mountains for medical treatment. 

The first floor is now the altar room where daily pujas take place and Buddhist philosophy classes are held for the local population. 

The 6 nuns themselves live on the second floor. Three of them share a bedroom, and another room is available for guests.

With the completion of the third floor, there will be space to further expand the charitable activities.

Als wir im Sommer 2023 in Kathmandu die Lotusnonnen besucht haben, waren alle in Aufbruch Stimmung: Fünf Kenmo Ma's sind in ein intensives Herzutrat Retreat gegangen für einen Monat und Dölma, die derzeitige Präsidentin der Lotusnonnen flog nach Amerika auf eine "Womens Hardfelt Leadership Konferenz" und tourte durch Amerika.

Nun im Oktober sind alle wieder zu Hause und organisieren das diesjährige große Friedensgebet, das Mönlam in Lumbini welches im November stattfindet. Wir freuen uns so über die Tatkraft, Tiefe und Lebendigkeit der Lotusnonnen. 

When we visited the lotus nuns in Kathmandu in the summer of 2023, everyone was in a spirit of optimism: five Kenmo Ma's went on an intensive Herzutrat retreat for a month and Dölma, the current president of the lotus nuns, flew to America for a “Womens Hardfelt Leadership Conference” and toured trough America.

Now in October everyone is back home and organizing this year's big peace prayer, the Mönlam in Lumbini which takes place in November. We are so happy about the energy, depth and vitality of the lotus nuns.

Nepalesische Frauen haben den Dharma studiert und praktiziert, seit er in Nepal zu blühen begann. Sie werden buddhistische Nonnen, indem sie ihre familiären Bindungen und Besitztümer aufgeben. Obwohl Nepal der Geburtsort von Gautama Buddha ist, gibt es keine Gruppe oder Organisation, um den Nonnen Nepals zu helfen. Die Nonnen sind in verschiedenen Teilen Nepals verstreut. Es fehlt ihnen an Einheit und Zusammenarbeit. Sie sind in verschiedene Sekten, Traditionen und Glaubensrichtungen aufgeteilt. In Folge des Mangels an Nonnenklöstern in denen sie leben und lernen können, nimmt die Zahl der Nonnen allmählich ab.

Nepalesische Mädchen und Frauen sehnen sich aber nach einem spirituellen Leben, um die Lehren des Buddha's zu studieren und zu praktizieren. Aufgrund der konservativen Gesellschaft Nepals verlassen viele Nonnen das Kloster wieder. Denn Frauen sind dazu bestimmt, die Frau eines anderen zu sein und ihre Hausarbeit zu verrichten. Nepalesische Nonnen erhalten kaum Gunst oder Förderung von der buddhistischen Gesellschaft oder von den klösterlichen Organisationen.

Daher ist es notwendig, alle Nonnen, die ihre Praktiken, Überzeugungen und Traditionen bewahren möchten, in einem einzigen Forum zu versammeln. Ihnen in allen Lebenslagen körperlich und geistig zu helfen ist unsere Aufgabe. Wir konzentrieren uns darauf, die Alphabetisierung der Nonnen zu verbessern und gute Möglichkeiten zum Studium und zur Praxis des Dharma zu schaffen. Auch vermitteln wir die spirituellen Lehren und die buddhistische Philosophie an Laienfrauen.

Nepalese women have been studying and practicing the Dharma since it began to flourish in Nepal. They become Buddhist nuns by giving up their family ties and possessions. Although Nepal is the birthplace of Gautama Buddha, there is no group or organization to help the nuns of Nepal. The nuns are scattered in different parts of Nepal. They lack unity and cooperation. They are divided into different sects, traditions and beliefs. As a result of the lack of nunneries where they can live and study, the number of nuns is gradually decreasing.

However, Nepalese girls and women yearn for a spiritual life to study and practice the Buddha's teachings. Due to Nepal's conservative society, many nuns leave the monastery again. This is because women are destined to be someone else's wife and do their housework. Nepalese nuns hardly receive any favour or support from the Buddhist society or from the monastic organizations.

It is therefore necessary to gather all nuns who wish to preserve their practices, beliefs and traditions in a single forum. Helping them physically and spiritually in all aspects of life is our mission. We focus on improving the literacy of the nuns and creating good opportunities to study and practice the Dharma. We also teach the spiritual teachings and Buddhist philosophy to lay women.

Für unseren Verein Sukha e.V. sind die Lotus Nonnen ein wunderbarer Projektpartner. Sie nehmen Ihre Sache ernst. Sie sind energiegeladen und können aufbrausend sein, wenn es um Ungerechtigkeit und Ungleichheit gegenüber Nonnen und Frauen generell geht. Sie sind schnell, wach, intelligent und engagiert. Dabei studieren und praktizieren sie in ihrer Gemeinschaft, alle klösterlichen Richtlinien befolgend.

The Lotus Nuns are a wonderful project partner for our association Sukha e.V.. They take their cause seriously. They are full of energy and can be quick-tempered when it comes to injustice and inequality towards nuns and women in general. They are quick, alert, intelligent and committed. They study and practice in their community, following all monastic guidelines.

We share a warm friendship.

But the fact that their organization has a good accountant and tax consultant is also essential for us as an association.
